| Why Thyrocare Collection Center (TCC)..! |
If you want to do a business, then you would have a few questions in your mind
and they are:
• What is this industry and what is expected out of me?
• Investments and their nature.
• Duration it would take to see the returns.
• Nature of returns it would give for the investments.
• How easy or difficult it is to make business out of it.
• Regulatory hassles.
• What company has and it provides
• Whom to ask?
• Can I visit the company?
Once the above are known one can take a right decision. Off course we are interested in our business and
we may talk it as easy and best, but it is up to you to take a decision by studying the market with due
care so that you do not waste your time in a wrong pursuit. |

| What is this industry and what is expected out of me: |
This is in a diagnostic industry, which
is a part of the growing healthcare industry. It requires confidence and knowledge to deal with patients, doctors
and also business. In this diagnostic industry, Thyrocare is focusing on blood investigations (keep in mind,
it does not do all blood investigations) and in this unorganized industry there are 1,00,000 laboratories in
India and the organized industry consists of 100 laboratories in the country which are standardized, accredited
and also reliable. However out of this 100 only there are 10 laboratories in the country which do business in
more than "one state" and Thyrocare is leader among these 10. Infact in volume aspects, all the nine in top 10
do not have that volume which Thyrocare alone has. |

| What makes Thyrocare different from others is its concept. |
It is the first company in diagnostic industry to recognize
that the business in this industry has two components: a. Procuring b. Processing, which are equally important
and procuring, is more difficult than processing. That is why in its primary product (T3T4TSH) it allows a 60%
margin to the procuring agency and in Lipro (lipid profile) at allows 66% to be retained by its franchisee.
Unheard of in the industry and it has produced a huge and powerful network, which accumulates more than 30,000
investigations per day from all corners of the country. The idea is simple: The one who procures should only
procure (should not process) and the one who process should only process (should not procure). Thus in all
district headquarters (almost all), Thyrocare is present and is represented by an entrepreneur. Thus by becoming
a collection center, you are expected to procure specimen intelligently so that it gives you a business and it
makes you a integral part of growth for the company. |

| Investments and their nature. |
Little money, a lot of time and a quantum of intelligence is what
is required to be put in as investments.
Money: Rs. 10,000 non-refundable deposit and a Rs. 50,000 refundable deposit. Thus a minimum
Rs. 60,000 is required, but some intelligent people invest even 5 lakhs (More you invest, bigger you will be for
internal and external competition).
Time: It is a market, which has huge demand and a little competition internally and from
external operators. It is not easy to do any business and this too requires time to be invested till a comfort
levels are reached in volumes and profitability. It takes a year normally for reaching that stage.
Intelligence: If you wish to do business with minimum investments and minimum time then you
require a lot of intelligence. That can ensure that you deal with right clients, with right strategy, in right
time using right products of the company and exploiting the right strengths of the company and using the obvious
weakness of your competitors.
Of course if you have a big office, you can have good number of staff and good quantum of turnover. |

| How big a premises required |
Anything from 150 sq feet to 2000 sq feet. What is essential is one
clean bathroom attached, well furnished room with an area of 150 sq feet. This will help to handle a 10 patients per
day work load when the patients come in for services. However, if one anticipates a better and bigger turnover, it is
prudent to have a big enough space to match the dream. If more space is available, one can
• appoint a Parttime - pathologists to do all such tests which Thyrocare does not do.
• Keep a Parttime - Cardiologist for an ECG and use for patients procured for Lipro,
Cardiopro and Sugarscan.
• Keep a Part time Radiologist - and provide a chest X ray for patients for prepatient care.
• Keep couple of MD docters and make them to specialise on Thyroid and Diabetes.
If space is more than 5000 sq feet a good polyclinic can be run and also a complete diagnostic centre can be run.
However please note that Thyrocare offers no promise to support, technically or financially for such projects but
certainly can motivate by giving all such patients coming to its network as long as the business of Thyrocare is
continuing to be the primary objective of the entreprenuer. |

Duration it would take to see the returns and also nature of
returns it would give for the investments. |
We have seen TCC who become viable in just 6 months also and there are a
few who could not sense what is business even after 6 years. Average time taken is 1 year and the returns are explained
as given under:
1. You procure specimen as per the company recommended prices for the services, which gives you turnover (X) (As per an annexure A).
2. You will pay for the processing charges to the company (Y) (as per annexure B - this will be given after receiving the EOI).
3. You will spend an amount of Rs. Z in your procuring as expenditures.
4. Your margin or profit or returns = X - Y - Z
Z is high if volumes are low and hence working with aggression can make you to see profits early.
Normally:
Y is around 60% of X and
Z is Rs.10,000 per month (other than premises rent) plus 10% of X
A turnover that is X of 75,000 to 1 lakh per month is ideal. |

| How easy or difficult it is to make business out of it |
Thyrocare came in the industry when it had 3000 competitors in the country in 1996. Thyrocare is leader
in the industry in 2006.
It is not the industry or it is not the competition, it is the way in which you conduct business makes you number
one.
When you come in there are 600 collection centers. If you have good business skills you will reach to top 25 in
just one year.
Incidentally it requires focus, hard work and also good communication skills other than a team creation and team
management capabilities. |

| Regulatory hassles? |
• Nothing specific as on now.
• But if you handle an employee do justice
• If you handle patients, then have qualified technician to collect blood.
• If local government says, take license to run it, you should.
• If local government advises for biomedical waste procedures listen to that.
• If company says under go training, follow that.
• If you run a business, then you have to comply with all requirements time to time, so that you sleep peacefully.
• In this industry, as on date, nothing is really intimidating for a TC |
